Our group has multiple openings for Ph.D. students with full financial aid, starting in Fall 2025. Students with majors in computer science, electrical engineering, or related subjects are welcome to apply. Candidates are expected to have strong theory and implementation skills and background in network/mobile systems, a strong motivation towards academic excellence, and should be prepared for years of concentrated work. Experience in the following fields is particularly preferred: electromagnetism and signal processing, wireless communication and networking, network/mobile systems and hardware design, and applied machine learning.

About me

Dr. Kun Qian will join the University of Virginia as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and a Cyber-Physical Systems Link Lab member. Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California San Diego. He received his B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Software at Tsinghua University with the highest distinction. His research direction includes the Internet of Things, Integrated Communication and Sensing, and Mobile Computing. His major research interest is sensing algorithms, systems, and hardware for ambient intelligence, with applications in important physical-aware scenarios, such as next-generation communication, human-computer interaction, and automotive perception. His work regularly appears in top-tier conferences and journals that span the areas of mobile computing, wireless networking, HCI, and computer vision.
